Eme Alfonso is a Cuban singer and composer whose work has become a bridge between her Afro-Cuban heritage and contemporary sounds.
Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, she comes from a family of renowned musicians who pioneered the fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms with rock and jazz in the 1970s.
He became a key member of the iconic band Síntesis, led by his parents, who were nominated for a Latin GRAMMY in 2001. This strong musical lineage laid the foundation for his career by blending the sounds of his culture with other global genres.
In 2022, he achieved an important milestone by winning a "Latin GRAMMY Award" and the "Gran Premio Cubano en los Premios Cubadisco" for "Ancestros Sinfónico", together with X Alfonso and Síntesis, a work that pays tribute to his Afro-Cuban roots through symphonic music. He has received multiple recognitions for his previous works, including the award for "Best Fusion Album" for "Señales" (2009), "Eme" (2012) and "Voy" (2018).
Eme's talent has taken her to prestigious stages around the world, such as the "NPR Tiny Desk Concert" in 2021, during Hispanic Heritage Month, where her performance was described as a spiritual experience, deeply connected to her Afro-Cuban roots. Her song "Algo Más" won the "Ibermúsicas Award for Best Song Composition" in 2020, further cementing her reputation as a versatile artist. The BBC has recognized Eme as "an up-and-comer in Latin music," and she has shared the stage with legendary artists such as Omara Portuondo, Chucho Valdés, Esperanza Spalding and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
Beyond her solo career, Eme is deeply involved in cultural initiatives, serving as Artistic Director of the "Havana World Music Festival" and leading the "Primera Base" contest, which supports the development of young Cuban artists.
